Accepting an invitation

Access to verstag is granted, not applied for. An owner or an admin invites your e-mail address into a workspace, you receive a link, and that link is your credential. Whoever redeems it is a member of that workspace afterwards — with the role the invitation names.

The signed-in product speaks German, so the messages below are quoted in German, with the English rendering in italics.

How to accept it

1. Open the link from the invitation in full.
2. If you are not signed in, the page shows a form carrying the invited address, an optional name and a password. Fill it in and press „Konto erstellen und beitreten“ (Create account and join).
3. If you already have a verstag account with this address, take the link underneath instead: „Anmelden und Einladung annehmen“ (Sign in and accept the invitation). It signs you in and brings you back with the invitation.
4. If you are already signed in, one button is left: „Einladung annehmen“ (Accept invitation).

What happens then

You are a member of the workspace and land inside it. The invitation is spent — it is good for exactly one redemption.

If no e-mail arrives

An invitation mail goes only to addresses that have no verstag account yet. If yours already has one, the admin passes the link on by hand. And if the send itself fails, the invitation stays valid and the link still works.

Look in the spam folder first; for a new address that is the likely place. If it is not there either, stop waiting and ask for the link.

If it does not work

„Dieser Einladungslink ist ungültig.“ (This invitation link is not valid.) Usually the link was truncated when it was copied — copy it from the invitation in full. Otherwise the invitation was revoked and you need a new one.

„Diese Einladung ist abgelaufen (Einladungen gelten 7 Tage).“ (This invitation has expired; invitations are valid for 7 days.) An expired link cannot be refreshed. Ask for a new invitation.

„Diese Einladung wurde bereits verwendet.“ (This invitation has already been used.) If it was you, the way in is the ordinary sign-in.

„Für diese E-Mail existiert bereits ein Konto.“ (An account already exists for this e-mail.) You filled in the form although an account exists for your address. Beneath it stands the route as a link: „Zur Anmeldung — Einladung danach annehmen“ (To sign-in — accept the invitation afterwards).

You are signed in under a different address. The page names both addresses and shows „Abmelden und Einladung öffnen“ (Sign out and open the invitation). The button signs you out and takes you to the sign-in page; sign in and you are back here, with the single click on „Einladung annehmen“ left to do.

The page asks for a password although you are signed in. No password has ever been set for your account. Fill in the two fields and press „Passwort setzen und beitreten“ (Set password and join). If the page answers „Dieser Schritt ist nur über den Link aus der E-Mail möglich. Das Passwort einer bestehenden Anmeldung wird in den Account-Einstellungen geändert.“ (This step is only possible through the link from the e-mail. The password of an existing sign-in is changed in the account settings.), your session did not come from a link in an e-mail — set the password in the account settings.
