What verstag does, how you get in, and how the first labelled output is made.
verstag does three things. It verifies the provenance of images and videos — it reads the provenance record inside the file: the signature, the certificate chain, the timestamp. It labels visibly, burning the visible AI label into a copy and embedding the Content Credentials into that same output. And it records both: every output that is produced is logged with the time it was made.
The signed-in product speaks German, so its messages are quoted in German throughout this documentation, with the English rendering in italics.
What verstag does not do
The picture itself is not assessed. verstag does not work out whether an image was generated by AI — it reads what the file records about that. „Keine Content Credentials gefunden“ (No Content Credentials found) therefore does not mean the file is forged: the vast majority of files in circulation simply carry none.
Whether a marking is required is your decision — verstag applies it and records that it did.
